High School Martial Arts Program

Local Martial Arts school, The Academy of Martial Arts, lends a hand at
Mayfield Secondary School in Brampton Ontario. Instructors will be
teaching an intensive five-day self-defense course to 250 students from
January 4th to the 8th. The course includes a test at the end of the week
on the knowledge the students have gained; the mark they receive also
contributes to their Physical Education marks. Good luck everyone!

Karate Chops Cancer Donation

Today the Brampton Academy of Martial Arts dropped of another cheque to
the Brampton Civic Hospital for $4000. This is part of their bigger goal
of $150,000 in 3 years, benifitting the Oncology department. Karate Chops
Cancer Event hosted by the Academy has raised over $100,000 for the
Brampton Civic Hospital thus far. Next Karate Chops Cancer Event is
schedule for Sunday, May 2nd, so mark your calendars.

AMA Food Drive

AMA Awards Banquet 2009

AMA Awards Banquet 2009

On Sunday, November 22, 2009 we are hosting our Annual AMA Awards Banquet at the Pearson Convention Centre. This is going to be a semi-formal gala event with demonstrations, award presentations, and a fabulous four-course meal. Over the course of the evening each AMA school we be presenting awards to recognize outstanding achievement in the following categories:

Competitor of the Year Assistant of the Year Above and Beyond Black Belt Club Academic Achievement BRAVE Award Forever Strong Award
& The Most Improved Award in each of the following categories:
5-8 Years Old 9-12 Years Old 13-15 Years Old Adult Female Adult Male

Along with this evening the AMA Rep Teams are hosting a Silent Auction to raise funds for their trip to the Disney International Martial Arts Festival in 2010.

Brampton Martial Arts School Programs

For over 20 years the Brampton Academy of Martial Arts has been teaching
streetproofing courses for the City of Brampton Parks and Recreation. In
a positive environment the children learn preventive self-defense
education as well as simple yet effective techniques in response to a
physical confrontation. This course also emphasizes not only how, but more
importantly, when and why self-defense techniques are used. Pee Wee
Streetproofing (ages 5-7), Kids Self-Defense (ages 8-12) and Girls
Self-Defense Courses are all currently being taught at Loafers Lake Rec.
Centre.

Haunted Dojo!

On Saturday October 31st, at the Mississauga Academy of Martial Arts, there will be a “Haunted Dojo” from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This “Haunted Dojo” will be open to the community, as well as all the existing students at AMA. With a donation of a Tooney you will gain access to the spooky, Dojo converted for this one day, into a maze of goblins and ghosts, all friendly AMA volunteers. Your Tooney will get you a goodie bag, a guides haunted Dojo tour and contribution to our local food bank in Mississauga. Our goal is to raise 100lbs of food for the food bank while having fun for all, on Halloween Day. Wear your scariest, funniest, or sillies costume. See you there.

Naples Training Camp

Naples Training Camp was a huge success.  Brown Belt grading and lecture
on Friday, 7 Hours of Training on Saturday, 2 hours on Sunday followed by
a Black Belt grading. Congratulations to all who graded.

Karate Chops Cancer

This annual event has raised over $125,000 in the past three years for the care and treatment of people suffering from various forms of cancer. In the first year of this event over $33,000 was raised for the Childhood Cancer Foundation, Candlelighters Canada. The second year of this event raised over $42,000 for the Carlo Fidani Peel Regional Cancer Centre in Mississauga. Last year Karate Chops Cancer raised $50,000 for the Oncology Unit for the William Osler Health Centre Foundation at the New Brampton Civic Hospital.
